First Day of Preschool (in Georgia)

Then it was her turn.

After a week of seeing her big sister skip out the door, bus stop bound, returning with an empty lunch box and a full book bag, she finally had her first day of school. natural light back to school photography

A final hug of reassurance. Some sage seven year old advice pulled from her vast school experience was quickly dispensed.

And she was ready to go it alone. Well, her and the flower she plucked from a neighbor’s yard. One wacky smile because Mama was harassing her and then she was done.

It was time to loiter impatiently in front of the garage with a not-so-subtle repetition of “Is it time to go? Is it time to go? Is it time to go?” Pause. “Mama! Is.It.Time.To. GOOOOO??!!”

And then it really was time to go.

We drove downtown to the school. After jumping out of the car, I pointed to her school and she was instantly giddy. She could not get there quickly enough.

I bet she will be able to touch the posts simultaneously. I know she will change in so many ways. I hope she stays the same in whole lot of ways, too.

My four hours of freedom and her four hours of social interaction and learning came to an end. While she was a bit fatigued, she was not diminished. She was still spunky. She was still my sweet girl. She was still really excited to be going to school.

And for all that fun and excitement? An ice cream of celebration while relaxing with some TV.

A good day drew to a close and she is able to do it all again tomorrow. I think there is nothing she would like more.
